The youth group of the International Dharma Instructors’ Association(IDIA)
holds the ‘Jakata Storytelling contest’ every January and the ‘English Buddhist Ceremony’ on the first Sunday of every month in Tonghaesa in Yeongdeungpo-gu.
We support the ‘English Buddhist Summer Camp’ and ‘International Patrol Jamboree’ so that youth groups have opportunities to learn the Buddha’s teaching, wisdom and compassion.
Jataka Storytelling Contest
The Jātaka tales are a voluminous body of literature native to India concerning the previous births of Gautama Buddha in both human and animal form. The future Buddha may appear as a king, an outcast, a god, an elephant—but, in whatever form, he exhibits some virtue that the tale thereby inculcates.
The purpose of the Jataka Storytelling Contest is for children to learn more about the Buddha’s wisdom and compassion through the tales of Jataka in English. Children may learn English in fun ways and increase their presentation skills. This contest has been held every January since 2008.
English Buddhist Ceremony for Children
The Children’s English Buddhist Ceremony is held on the first Sunday of every month at Tonghaesa in Yeongdeungpo- Gu.
Students can learn about Buddhism in English through videos in English about the Buddha’s life, understand the Buddha’s teachings in English, become familiar with English expressions about temple culture and structure, and play various English games using Buddhist terms.
International Patrol Jamboree
We support the「Youth Scout」event sponsored by the Buddhist Scout Federation.
From the 2nd to 7th of August, 2018, some IDIA members participated in the 5th International Patrol Jamboree Convention held in Goseong, Gangwon Province, and interpreted the Sunday Buddhist ceremony and Buddhist Dharma talks. We provided interpretation services for participants in Bangladesh, participated in various services such as administrative interpreting and hospitality, and will prepare for youth propagation in connection with the Buddhist Federation in the ‘2023 Jeonbuk Saemangeum World Jamboree Competition.’
